Frequently Asked Questions
Below are a list of the most common questions and problems. Please
read through this list of questions and answers before you e-mail me
for help. It will save both you and me time.
Images are not showing up
/ they are x's « top »
Make sure that you have: SAVED all images to your computer ; UPLOADED it to
your website (in the same spot as the html file is saved) ; and be sure that
you did not rename the image or change the extension (like .gif to .jpg).
If you did rename the image, you will also need to modify that in the html
code. Sometimes AOL and other web browsers rename the files to .bmp or .art.
Make sure you change this!
Iframes aren't working / opening
in new window «
top »
Iframes only work in Internet Explorer. If you're using
Netscape, any links that were supposed to be targeted to the iframe will popup
in a new window instead. If you're using Internet Explorer and the links still
pop up, check to make sure that the links are targeted to the frame: frame
so they load inside the iframe. The code would look something like <a href="yourpage.html"
target="frame">
Iframes page is not found.
« top »
Check the code and look for the part that says <iframe>
and a bunch of other text. I named the page that loads inside the iframe note.html.
Change note.html to whatever is the name of the page you want to load in the
iframe.
How do I place text inside
the iframe? « top »
You do not write text inside an iframe. Think if iframes
as frames inside of a webpage. They link to other pages. You create another
page (for example, call it aboutme.html), write all your text for it, and
then on your main page, create a link to that page (aboutme.html), target
it to the iframe, and it will load inside the iframe.
How do I target my links? «
top »
First, make sure you know the frame name that you would
like the links to load into. This can be found inside of your iframe or frames
script (look for SRC="framename"). The code for your links would
look like: <a href="yourpage.htm" target="framename">pagetitle</a>
Replace: yourpage.htm with whatever page you are creating a link to. Replace
pagetitle with whatever you want the link name to be. Replace framename with
the name of the frame.
How do I upload the graphics?
« top »
You can upload the graphics two ways, depending on what
your web site host offers. Many allow you to upload files through ftp. Some
sites also allow you to upload files directly from their site. Please refer
to your web site host's frequently asked questions or help files about this
question if you can't figure out how to upload graphics to your site ; as
I am only familiar with how to upload files to my host. I do not know how
to upload files on angelfire, geocities, etc. Just look around their help
files and I'm sure you will find out how.
Can I modify the layout a
little? « top »
You can add text to some of the buttons on the layouts and
adjust a few things to fit with your site, but do not confuse this with stealing
my layout, modifying it a little, and claiming it as your own. Even with your
modifications, the layout and all of its graphics are copyrighted to me. At
no time may you remove my link off of the layout's graphics.
Can I remove/move your link?
« top »
No. Removing my link is copyright infringement. If you move
my link at all, it must still remain somewhere on the MAIN page. I refuse
to accept a small little link at the bottom of your credits page. E-mail
me if you have more questions about this.
Do your layouts work with
expage? « top »
No. Expage does not allow you to upload graphics. They also
have a very weird and different html code than every other site out there,
so most likely my codes won't work with expage. Also, I've heard that many
of my layout codes are too long for expage. If you are using expage and would
like to use one of my layouts, I simply suggest you get another host.
What programs do you use to
make everything? « top »
I use Macromedia Fireworks to make the layouts, buttons,
backgrounds, and lots of the images you see on my site. They have a great
slicing tool and html generator that helps greatly in making many of the layouts.
To make my site, I use Dreamweaver, again another great program by Macromedia
that's the best around for html. The graphics that I've made are from photos
that I've found on the web (copyright-free of course) :) that I've applied
cool filters and added cool effects to in Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Photoshop.
Can you make me a custom
layout/graphic/etc? « top »
I can create a layout for you, however it will not be free.
Please e-mail me to inquire about
pricing.
How many times do I have
to link you? « top »
If you're using one of my layouts, the original link that
I placed on the layout should suffice. I MUST be linked on your main page
if you're using one of the layouts. If you're using graphics, it would be
greatly appreciated to link me on the pages that you are using my graphics.
However, for graphics, and ONLY for graphics, will I accept a link on your
splash page or credits page.
What happens if I don't feel
like linking you? « top »
You're violating both U.S. and
international copyright laws. Every layout and graphic is copyrighted
to me. The only way that I permit usage of these layouts and graphics
are if and only if I am linked back on your site. Main page for layouts
; credit page for graphics. If this rule is not complied with, you are
breaking the law ; plain and simple. I do have a lawyer and I will take
action against those who violate my rights. I spend hours and hours creating
everything you've seen on this site for free, so please give me the credit
I deserve.
